l'american curl est un chat joueur, discret, intelligent parfois téméraire, attaché à ses propriétaires et également sociable avec ses congénères.

Chat au caractère équilibré, d'un tempérament égal, malicieux, joueur, très facile à vivre. Il ne miaule pratiquement pas. Il a besoin d'exercice et en cas de possibilité de sortir, un jardin cloturé est vivement souhaitable.

CURL, en anglais, signifie : boucle.

L’american curl est caractérisé par ses oreilles recourbées vers l’arrière, dite « en croissant de lune ».

Pour les expositions, il est reconnu trois degrés d'oreilles :

Premier degré : les oreilles sont assez droites.
Deuxième degré : un peu plus courbé (presque en angle droit).
Troisième degré, en bouton de rose. La pointe des oreilles ne doit jamais toucher le crâne.

Il existe deux variétés d’American Curl : à poil court et à poil long (le plus fréquent). Chez le premier, la robe est courte et soyeuse. Le sous poil est réduit. Chez le second, elle est mi-longue avec une texture fine et peu de sous-poil. Bien fournie, la queue a une forme de plume.

Toutes les couleurs sont admises.

Grands, en forme de noix, bien espacés. La couleur qui doit être vive, profonde, uniforme, est sans relation avec celle de la robe.
